"The Gift of a Cuento"

Once again in my English 1A class, Professor Lennon had the class read a selection called "The Gift of a Cuento" from Judith Cofer's memoir Woman in Front of the Sun: On Becoming a Writer. We were asked also to answer three out of the seven questions from the worksheet Verbal or Written Responses for Open Discussion-Non Fiction and Fictions. And here are my responses.
1. I liked (pick something)______ because...
I liked how the piece was about her Tio because he seemed to have had an impact on her life. Cofer wrote that she wished to be like her Tio. She said "it was Tio's charm, his ability to flatter and to persuade, that usually got him into trouble" and she wanted to have that power.
3. I found (pick something)______ interesting from a writer's point of view because...
I found the part at the end of the selection interesting from a writer's point of view because it showed that her Tio really cared about her work. And even when he was sick he still sent her a letter giving her a blessing and that he received a gift from her.
5. What bored me was (pick something) because...
What bored me was actually nothing from the selection because I was very interested about the piece. I kept wanting to read more and more about her Tio and their relationship. Even though he was getting sick because of the cancer I still wished to know more.

Jenna, you did a good job in introducing what your writing about. However, your ideas don't come out as nicely as I know you can write them. Your first two responses are a bit unclear. I would add a little more detail. Your last response was good, I felt the same way about the end of the piece. I too wanted to know more about their relationship.

Jenna, your answers were very clear and showed that you comprehended the work thoroughly. However, avoid starting the sentence with "and" when you're transitioning to a new idea. All in all you introduced your take very well and answered the questions with a visible understanding for the work.
